Born and raised in Hiram Clarke, Houston, TX; Chris Duduley aka Propain has become a prominent figure in the Houston music scene. Since deciding to trade in a basketball for a microphone while in college, Propain transitioned into pursuing music full-time and hasn’t looked back since.

Propain’s latest project,”7 Day Theory”  is executive produced by DJ X.O. This project “7 Day Theory”, which is available anywhere you consume music, has a soulful feel with a new wave production that gives listeners a good balance of substance and style. In addition to the dope body of work, the whole project was completed in 7 days. Propain states that he “learned alot about myself in those 7 days”. Read More Below.

Question

What makes this project different from your others?

Propain

For starters, I took a whole new approach of production with this project. 7 Day Theory is one of the first times I really stepped outside of my normal circle of producers who I’ve been working with since I came in the game. I decided to switch it up and deal with DJ XO exclusively. He’s real versatile and it’s just a whole different vibe with him, man. Dj XO is a different type of dude. He got a lot of youth and energy about him so that was the main thing. Another difference from my previous albums was how fast we created it… the whole project was done in seven days. Seven days….when I’m used to taking 6-8 months!

Question

What is the meaning behind the title 7 Day Theory?

Propain

Basically the 7 Day Theory comes from the fact that the album was created in 7 days. I really go into depth about the full meaning on the outro of the album. The entire album was literally done in 7 days. That was the main thing that helped me name the album. I moved everything so fast because I felt like I was in a race against time because of a dream I had. Real talk, I’m not crazy, but I had a dream where I felt like the devil had came to me. It was just a lot of crazy shit that was going on at the time. So there was that dream, and then there was also a voice that told me I had 7 days to correct my situation, whatever that situation was. I don’t really know what situation it was referring to, but the voice was like, “You got 7 days or you might as well just sell your soul”…I don’t know man…me waking up from that, that shit kinda had me shook so I was on XO heavy like “let’s just work, work, work” and man it just came out. We end up completing the project in 7 days. We didn’t put it out in them 7 days but at the time I didn’t even know I could do no shit like that. I had never done this before. I had never worked that much in 7 days. We still worked hard in completion and mastering after them initial 7 days trying to get it to how I wanted it. By no means was it no rushed music at all. It was just I had really made MY type of quality music in 7 days and I learned alot about myself in those 7 days I didn’t even know I could do, so that’s where the 7 day theory comes from.

Question

So your 7 day Theory has no correlation to Tupac’s Makaveli 7 Day Theory?

Propain

Nah man it had none at all, even though I’m a huge fan of Pac. To be honest it really just came from the 7 day process of creating the album. 7 Day Theory was just the name that fit the best. I felt 7 Day Theory would go well because it took place in 7 days, but as big as the influence that Pac had on me and my career this album and the naming of it actually didn’t have nothing to do with Makaveli.

Question

What do you plan to accomplish with this album?

Propain

The main thing, as with every project I do, is that I come out with a finished product. One that will allow me to expand my fanbase and reach a new plateau that I felt I haven’t reached yet. A national platform, not just to be on myself but I feel like with the type of quality music I’m making, shit, it can hold its own with some of the best artist in the game today. A lot of them dudes are my favorites. I considered them some of my favorite artist from J. Cole to Kendrick to Big K.R.I.T. all them I love all their music, but I also feel like it ain’t alot of what they’re doing that I ain’t doing also you knowimsayin. So that’s the main thing bro, the main thing is just keep going. As much as I been saying that I want to get my music to a certain level I’m still happy everyday with where I’m at in my career. I just know its a bigger stage for me at some point, but I know shit its gone all happen when it’s gon happen.
